Juan Muñoz was born in Madrid and studied art in London and New York. After returning to Madrid, among other things, he organized exhibitions in the early 80's in which not only art and architecture but also art and ethnology were closely allied. In 1984 he created his first independent works which were shown in a gallery in a first solo exhibition. In 1986 he worked together with the musician Alberto Iglesias for the first time. Later on, combined projects with the composer Gavin Bryars, the author John Berger, the actor John Malkovich and others occurred. Apart from working as a sculptor and an illustrator, Muñoz also wrote texts of a poetic and essayistic nature. They draw attention to his wide range of interests, reaching from architecture to ethnology and also to magic. Some of his important exhibitions were held in museums in Chicago, Krefeld, Eindhoven, Nîmes, Dublin, Madrid, London and Washington. He took part in La Biennale di Venezia (Venice), the Biennale of Sydney (Sydney) and the Documenta IX in Kassel, to name but a few.
